What’s involved in a dental check-up?

At your first appointment, we’ll ask you to provide a brief medical history for our records. This information is completely confidential and for our use only. We like to make our patients feel at home, hence our name – Smile House. During your dental check-up, you can relax in the dental chair and watch the channel of your choice on our television screen while we get to work. Your dentist will ask you about any concerns you may have before taking a look inside your mouth. During this comprehensive examination, we’ll assess each tooth for plaque build-up and cavities, whilst also checking the health of your gums. In some instances, we may suggest x-rays to better understand what’s happening under the surface. Next, we’ll clean your teeth meticulously, removing any plaque and tartar build-up and leaving you with fresh, clean pearly whites. This scale and polish should not be painful – most patients describe it as a tickling vibration. We’ll conclude the check-up with a fluoride treatment, before offering tips for at-home care.

How often should you have dental check-ups?

It’s a good idea to schedule dental check-ups every six months. In some instances, we may recommend patients have more frequent dental check-ups, for example, if you’re a smoker or pregnant.
