Dental Implants

Dental implants offer a convenient and natural-looking solution if you’re missing one or more teeth. At Smile House, we provide dental implant treatment from experienced dentists, using the latest materials and techniques to enhance your treatment results with a replacement tooth that looks completely natural.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are titanium screws placed into the jawbone, with an artificial tooth (or teeth) then attached. Unlike bridges or dentures, dental implants are independent of adjacent teeth and do not require their support. They offer a long-lasting, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing solution for tooth replacement. Smile House provides single-unit implants to replace one tooth or full arch cases for multiple teeth replacement with a fixed or removable prosthesis.

Is Dental Implant Treatment Right for You?

The success of dental implant treatment relies on having healthy gums and enough bone to support the implant structure. Prior to placement, you may need bone grafting or gum/soft tissue connective graft to ensure a strong foundation for your implant. Our experienced dentists will assess your oral health condition and determine whether dental implant treatment is right for you.

How is Dental Implant Treatment Carried Out?

Dental implant treatment involves a series of steps. First, cone beam scans determine the height and width of your bone structure so that the correct implant size can be provided for your missing tooth site. Impressions or scans of your arches are then taken, and an appointment is arranged for the implant to be placed under local anaesthetic.

Next, an appointment is arranged for the implant/s to be placed under local anaesthesia. On occasion, sedative medication may be given if you are anxious. An incision is made in your gum where the missing tooth is, and a series of drills are used to create the implant osteotomy site. The implant is placed, and the area is sutured to seal. You must allow approximately three months for your bone to grow or integrate into the implant. Second-stage surgery may be required to expose the implant head, a healer is placed, and a further month of soft tissue healing is required. Finally, the construction of the implant crown is carried out.

How Long Do Dental Implants Last?

The long-term success rate of dental implants is extremely high as long as you continue with excellent oral health care. Continual six-monthly hygiene care is needed to help you maintain your ideal oral health. Periodically, an x-ray may be required to determine that the substructure of your bone is kept in a healthy state.

Can Implants Be Used with Dentures?

At Smile House, we can effectively attach dentures to implants for added stability. This solution you won’t have to worry about your teeth moving around when you eat and offers greater comfort than traditional dentures. We provide cost-effective implant-borne denture prostheses.
