Veneers can give you that brighter, more youthful, aligned appearance immediatley.
They are a great option if you are wanting a more immediate cosmetic dental result without having to go down the lengthy path of orthodontic treatment. In saying this though, there are cases that cannot have veneers straight away, due to the severe malalignment of their teeth, and orthodontic treatment may be required before commencement of veneers.
In some cases, there may be a gum height discrepancy, and sometimes we need to trim some of the soft tissue to align the gum height, this adds to the best overall cosmetic result if required.
Porcelain veneers are placed over the front and biting edge of the teeth;usually, anterior or front teeth, however, posterior or back teeth can have this layer added to the outer wall. The technique is very similar to having false fingernails carried out. There is minimal preparation of the tooth surface, therefore, saving natural tooth structure, a more conservative approach to enhancing your smile than having full crowns carried out where more natural tooth structure is removed to make room for the crowns.
Preparation of the teeth is done in one appointment; you leave with temporary veneers in place. Your return for the insert of the veneers is about 2-3 weeks later.
Shading for your new cosmentic enhancement will be carried out at our laboratory; this is in the first week after having the preparation done.
Preparation of the veneers for e.g 6 veneers is anywhere from 2 -3 hours and the insert of the veneers is about the same time frame.
There may be an additional appointment called the try-in stage of the veneers, prior to their final insertion; as the shade chosen together with the laboratory technician may not be entirely what you are after, and needs changing.
